“Who Doesn’t Pick-Up, Doesn´t Get Attached”? Interactions and Bonds with Foster Infants

Abstract This study investigated the emotional bonds between caregivers and foster infants, how these were meant enabled in a care institution. An exploratory was conducted, following interactions of three babies (age: 4-13 months). Video recordings weekly made, along months, addition to interviews field diaries. Observational categories quantified. Results indicate low caregivers’ responsiveness infants’ expressions. Caregivers avoided physical contacts. Institutionalized guidelines (as “don´t pick-up baby not get attached”) circunscribed interactions. Strong established with certain children. It discussed socialization, context organization are related infant’s socio-affective development, construction process learning.
